CSOMA is California’s professional association for acupuncture and East Asian medicine. Membership funds the profession’s presence in Sacramento. What each membership costs, what it includes, and how to get started.

Choose your membership
Three types of membership. Most CSOMA members are licensed acupuncturists practicing in California.
Professional
$350
per year, or $32/mo
For practitioners currently licensed to practice acupuncture by the California Acupuncture Board. Four dues levels are available, from $175 to $1,200 a year.
Part-time, newly licensed, or out of state? See the reduced rate
Student

per year
For non-licensed students enrolled at least half-time in a California Acupuncture Board approved program.
Supporting

per year
For retired practitioners, and for supporters of acupuncture and East Asian medicine.
What each membership includes
Every membership funds the same advocacy. Professional membership is the one that lists you in the practitioner directory and gives you a vote in the association.

Professional dues levels
Every Professional member gets the same benefits and the same vote. You choose the dues level that fits your practice. All four are open to any practitioner currently licensed by the California Acupuncture Board.
Professional Reduced Rate
$175
per year, or $16/mo
Part-time and out of state
Intended for part-time practitioners, faculty, DAOM candidates, newly licensed practitioners, and out-of-state licensees, or for those who determine this level is the best fit for their current professional circumstances.
Professional
$350
per year, or $32/mo
Practicing in California
The standard rate for practitioners currently licensed to practice acupuncture by the California Acupuncture Board. Most CSOMA members join at this level.
Jade Circle
$600
per year, or $50/mo
Steady support
For licensed practitioners who choose a higher dues level. Jade Circle dues help keep CSOMA’s advocacy running year to year without gaps.
Golden Phoenix
$1,200
per year, or $100/mo
Leading support
The association’s highest dues level, for practitioners who want to underwrite CSOMA’s advocacy well beyond the cost of their own membership.
Out-of-state licensees
Practitioners licensed in California but practicing elsewhere are eligible for the Professional Reduced Rate. Out-of-state licensees receive all Professional benefits and may serve on the Board of Directors, but may not vote on matters submitted to the membership, including the election of the Board of Directors.
You choose your dues level on the application form. You can change it at renewal.
Where the money goes
Your dues pay for representation in Sacramento
CSOMA retains a lobbyist whose work is to promote and protect the practice of acupuncture and East Asian medicine in California. That means legislation, the California Acupuncture Board, scope of practice, and the other bodies that decide what licensed acupuncturists are permitted to do.
A lobbyist is a standing cost, not a campaign. Your membership is what keeps that advocacy uninterrupted from one year to the next.
Membership is how the profession pays for its own representation. CSOMA works in collaboration with allied organizations in the field, and dues are what keep California’s licensed acupuncturists at the table.
What your dues pay for
Legislative advocacy
A lobbyist at the Capitol, year-round, on bills and regulations affecting the profession.
Public awareness
We monitor and respond to public health issues, publish fact sheets, and keep an active presence on social media as a trusted voice for Californians on acupuncture and East Asian medicine.
ASA membership
A portion of your dues goes toward membership in the American Society of Acupuncturists, where CSOMA acts as a strategic partner and engages industry leaders at the national level.

Eligibility & governance
Who qualifies for each membership, and what each one may do in the association.
Professional membership
Available to practitioners who are currently licensed to practice acupuncture by the California Acupuncture Board.
Professional Members are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors. With the exception of out-of-state licensees, Professional members are eligible to vote on all matters submitted for a vote of the membership, including election of the Board of Directors; serve on the Board of Directors; and serve as Officers of the Board.
Student membership
Available to non-licensed acupuncturists who are enrolled, at least half-time, in a program that is at least one academic year’s duration and is approved by the California Acupuncture Board.
Note: licensed acupuncturists enrolled in educational programs such as a DAOM or DACM (completion doctorate) are eligible for Professional Reduced Rate membership.
Student members are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors, but may not serve as officers of the association or vote on matters submitted to the membership for vote, including the election of the Board of Directors.
Supporting membership
Available to supporters of acupuncture, including: Public and Retired/Inactive practitioners.
- Public. Available to any employee of a firm, corporation, or institution that qualifies for Educational Institution or Merchant membership.
- Retired/Inactive. Available to practitioners who no longer earn income as a practitioner of any activity for which a license to practice acupuncture is required.
Supporting Members are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors, but may not serve as officers of the association or vote on matters submitted to the membership for vote, including the election of the Board of Directors.

Your welcome email carries a link to the member portal. Sign in once to activate your account.
Complete your directory listing
Professional members appear in the public practitioner directory. Add your photo, clinic address, and a short bio so patients can find you.
Claim your ASA membership
Your CSOMA dues include membership in the American Society of Acupuncturists. Access details are shared with members — email info@csomaonline.org and we will send them to you.
